Great Promise for American Indians, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose main mission is
to educate the students and the public about
American Indians Beliefs, Cultures and Traditions.
The Annual Austin Powwow and American Indian Heritage Festival is
The Great Promise, Inc. primary event each year for reaching
out to the Central Texas Non-Native Communities.
The Austin Powwow and Heritage Festival Committee, itself a volunteer group, who works year-round to plan a free gift to the Central Texas Communities that is an educational opportunity for schools, service organizations, and individuals who want to learn more about the American Indians Cultures, Traditions, and their Way of Life both Historical and Contemporary. Our Committee comprised of only about three dozen American Indians, Native Americans and Non-Natives Volunteers. It is impossible to honor the hundreds of requests each year that we receive from people wanting us to either speak or perform for their events. Without the help of the community and the hundreds of community volunteers on the day of the event, we would not be able to provide this valuable cultural event. This award-winning festival, which thousands of people enjoy each November, needs your help to continue this event.
It is important to know that all the efforts that go into the Austin Powwow and American Indian Heritage Festival is to benefit students in the Central Texas Districts. The Great Promise, Inc. annually awards scholarships to graduating American Indian Seniors. That is why admission to the event will always be FREE and why we need your help.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
In order to put on this nationally recognized event, it takes thousands of dollars to bring in the hundreds of American Indians from not only Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, but as far away as North and South Dakota and Canada. The Great Promise, Inc. provides some transportation, lodging and small honorariums for the American Indians who come to help with the educational portion of the powwow and festival, plus provide prize money for American Indians Dancers who carry on the American Indian dance traditions and participate in our dance categories competition.
We must also honor all the American Indians and their families
who travel hundreds of miles to be at our event
by providing them both lunch and supper,
an American Indian Tradition at most
Powwows in the U.S.A. and Canada.
We are very fortunate to have the volunteers efforts of
the staff at: Chez Nous Restaurant,
who provides and serves
our American Indians Guests
with delicious and nutritious meals.
For the past few years,
over 40,000 Spectators have visited
The Austin Powwow and American Indian Heritage Festival.
"The North America’s Largest Single Day Powwow and Festival!"
We believe we might just be the largest
Central Texas School District's Cultural Event,
not only in our Community,
